After a collision, a car is often not roadworthy, even if the damage looks minor at first glance. When a car needs towing after an accident, we choose the loading method to suit its condition: we use hydraulic equipment, a winch, hydraulic ramps and a lifting arm with a wheel lift or forks.
We do not drag a damaged car by force. Cars with automatic gearboxes are transported on a recovery truck, because towing with a tow rope can damage the transmission. We handle vehicles within the limits of our fleet, up to 7 t GVW. We do not tow vehicles above this weight.
Accident scene, clean-up and photos
On site, we help make sure the next steps run smoothly. Securing the accident scene includes the tasks we can carry out without interfering with the work of the emergency services: positioning the recovery truck, loading the vehicle safely and removing it from the road where possible.
We clean up after a collision when debris or parts left at the scene need to be removed because they are obstructing traffic. We also take photos of the loading and of the vehicle on the recovery truck. These photos may help when speaking to the insurer. More about documenting damage is available in our guide how to take photos after a collision.
After an accident, step by step
First check whether anyone has been hurt. If anyone is injured, call 112 and follow the instructions of the emergency services. If nobody is hurt, the circumstances are clear and both parties agree, complete an at-fault driver’s collision statement. You can use the collision statement generator for the at-fault driver.
Then call your insurer and confirm that the at-fault driver’s policy is valid and genuine. Once the scene is secured and you know what should happen to the car, order a recovery truck. Also ask for photos of the work carried out and the loaded car. A fuller guide to what to do after an incident is available in our article what to do after a minor collision.
Insurers and paperwork after loading
We work with insurers and assistance providers: PZU, PZM, ISON, Link4, Global Assistance and DKV. After an incident, the usual useful details are: location, vehicle details, a description of the damage, transport destination and loading photos.
You can ask the dispatcher about licences and permits for working on the road and clearing the aftermath of an accident. This helps keep the billing and paperwork clear and makes it easier to pass the case on, for example to a garage, insurer or fleet company.
