If your car breaks down in Poland, look after people first and the car second. SKI TRANS is based in Suwałki, close to the Lithuanian border. Car breakdown in Poland: the first minutes
Switch on your hazard lights straight away and pull over as far to the right as you can, onto the hard shoulder or another safe place off the carriageway. Put on a reflective vest before you get out, take your phone and the car key, and move yourself and your passengers behind the safety barrier if you can do so safely.
On an expressway such as the S61, place the warning triangle at least 100 m behind the car. Do not try to repair the car next to fast-moving traffic, in the dark, in the rain or in the snow.
If anyone is injured, call 112. It is the emergency number in Poland, as in the rest of the European Union.
What to tell the dispatcher
Call +48 608 275 667 or message us on WhatsApp at the same number. A location pin sent from your phone helps a lot. Have these details ready:
- the road number and the direction you are travelling in,
- the nearest exit, junction or service area,
- the make, model and colour of the car,
- what happened: the engine will not start, you have a flat tyre, there has been a collision, or the car is in a ditch,
- how many people are in the car,
- whether the car has an automatic gearbox,
- the weight and size of the vehicle, if it is a van or a camper.
Towing, jump start or help on the spot
Not every breakdown ends with the car being loaded onto a recovery truck. On the spot, we can start the engine with a booster, change a wheel or bring fuel, if it is safe to work where the car is standing. On an expressway, it is often wiser to load the car and deal with the fault somewhere safe.
Cars with an automatic gearbox can only be transported on the platform of a recovery truck, because towing them on a rope can damage the gearbox. We help cars, vans and campers. We do not tow vehicles above 7 t gross vehicle weight.
After a collision
If anyone is hurt, call 112 and do not move the vehicles unless it is necessary to save a life or remove an immediate danger. After a minor collision with no injuries, if the drivers agree on who caused it, they usually write a statement, which is signed by the driver at fault. If there is any doubt about fault, documents or insurance, call the police.
Take photos of the vehicles, the damage and the position of the cars if you can do so safely. Then contact your insurer or assistance provider to confirm the next steps.
Prices and payment
Towing a car on a recovery truck costs from 200 zł net, and towing a van costs from 300 zł net. Starting the engine with a booster or jump leads costs from 180 zł net. Fuel delivery costs from 180 zł net, and the fuel itself is paid for by the customer. Within 100 km of Suwałki, we add no call-out surcharge. Prices are indicative and may change. The dispatcher gives you the current price on the phone.

Do you work at night?
Yes. The dispatch centre works 24/7, and the arrival time at night is the same as during the day: 15 minutes in central Suwałki and up to 40 minutes within 30 km of the town.
