Towing a bus is not the same as towing a regular car. A tourist, courier, or transport bus is larger, heavier, and requires a different approach and specialized equipment.
We have extensive experience in towing buses — whether it’s a rental bus for trips, a courier vehicle, a transport vehicle, or an intercity bus. We use professional equipment and flatbeds designed for this type of vehicle, always following safety regulations.
When can a bus be towed with a rope, and when is a flatbed necessary?
A bus can be towed with a rope, but only under certain conditions. The rope must be between 4 to 6 meters long, properly marked, and securely attached. However, due to the size and weight of the bus — especially on longer distances — it is often much safer to choose a flatbed. On a flatbed, the vehicle stands securely, without the risk of damaging the suspension or uneven loading.
When is a flatbed necessary instead of a rope?
- Damaged steering or braking system — if the bus does not have functioning brakes or steering, towing with a rope is unacceptable.
- Transport on the highway — on fast roads, only a flatbed is allowed.
- Bus with damaged suspension — locked wheels or serious damage prevent safe towing on a rope.
- Long distances — for routes over several dozen kilometers, a flatbed provides greater comfort and safety.
- Transport abroad — we transport vans for international trips on a flatbed.
- When you want to be sure — if you care about 100% safety of the vehicle, the best choice is a flatbed.
Can a passenger car tow a van — theory vs practice
In theory — if the regulations are met and the weight of the van does not exceed permissible limits — it is possible. However, in practice, it is not a good idea. The van is heavy, difficult to control on a rope, and it can easily lead to collisions or damage to vehicles.
Instead of risking it, it's better to entrust towing to professionals. We have the right equipment, experience, and insurance. This solution is safer, faster, and usually more cost-effective than trying to do it yourself.
What van breakdowns most often require towing
The most common situations in which a van requires towing include:
an engine that won't start, a dead battery, more serious mechanical failures, transmission problems, fluid leaks, or warning lights coming on. Towing is often necessary after a collision or accident when the driver is unsure if the vehicle is safe to drive further.
On-site, we assess the condition of the van and decide whether towing on a rope or transport on a flatbed is better.
The 80/20 rule — towing safety
This is not a legal regulation, but an important safety recommendation: do not exceed 80% of the permissible total weight (DMC) of the towing vehicle when pulling a van on a rope or trailer. The remaining 20% is left for passengers and additional loads. This makes the setup more stable and reduces the risk of losing control.
Fines for improper towing of vans
Towing without proper safeguards or in violation of regulations can result in a fine. Typically, this is 250–300 zlotys, but rates and rules may change, so it's always worth checking current information from official sources.
We ensure that towing your van is 100% compliant with regulations. You don't have to worry about anything.

Is your tourist van stuck in Germany, the Netherlands, or another country? We can go get it and bring it back to Poland. This is a more complex service — it involves logistics, documents, and formalities — but we have experience in this. Contact us, and we will arrange the details and schedule.

Each order is priced individually. You call, describe the situation — we provide a specific price before we start anything. No surprises or additional charges 'at the end'.
